Under-17 Team 1 Green Bay 2 (F-OT)

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Brendan Warren (Carleton, Mich.) tallied the lone goal, as the U.S. National Under-17 Team fell in overtime to the Green Bay Gamblers, 2-1, here tonight at the Resch Center.

Team USA outshot Green Bay, 13-7, in the opening frame but could not solve Gamblers goaltender Jared Rutledge.

Green Bay netted the game's first goal at 17:19 of the second stanza. The game was then stopped due to the Gamblers' Teddy Bear Toss promotion, which helps local hospitals and other charities that serve children. The ice was resurfaced and the remaining 2:41 was played before a short break that led to the third period.

Warren knotted the game, 1-1, at the 2:30 mark of the final frame. Christian Fischer (Wayne, Ill.) dropped the puck to Auston Matthews (Scottsdale, Ariz.) who circled behind the net. Matthews put a shot on Rutledge who kicked out a rebound to Warren. Warren knocked the puck back towards Rutledge and into the net.

Team USA managed five shots on goal and Green Bay tested Michael Lackey (Washington, D.C.) six times in the third, but a winner would not be determined in 60 minutes.

Skating four-on-four in overtime, the Gamblers captured the victory over the U17s, scoring at 3:40.

Lackey made 21 saves for the U.S. in the loss, while Rutledge had 27 saves in the win for Green Bay.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team will face the Muskegon Lumberjacks tomorrow (Jan. 26) at L.C. Walker Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m. EST. This is the rescheduled game that was originally slated for Friday, Jan. 24.

Under-18 Team 7 Muskegon 0 (F)

MUSKEGON, Mich. - Edwin Minney (Wind Gap, Pa.) made 38 saves and Anders Bjork (Mequon, Wis.) notched two goals, as the U.S National Under-18 Team blanked the Muskegon Lumberjacks, 7-0, here tonight at L.C. Walker Arena. The U18s went 2-0 this weekend against United States Hockey League competition.

Team USA tested Muskegon netminder Eric Schierhorn 20 times in the first period, but could not score. Minney made eight of his saves to keep the game scoreless heading into the first intermission.

Dylan Pavelek (Marysville, Mich.) opened the scoring at 3:13 of the second stanza. Skating around the back of the net, Pavelek roofed the puck past Schierhorn. Bjork doubled the lead midway through the frame, capitalizing on a Muskegon miscue. Jack Glover (Golden Valley, Minn.) intercepted an outlet pass and fed the trailer, Bjork, who lit the lamp. Team USA got a fortunate bounce when the puck caromed off a skate at 12:20. Alex Tuch (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) was credited with the goal.

The Under-18 Team continued its offensive output, scoring four goals in the third period. Three of those tallies came on the power play, with Jack Dougherty (Cottage Grove, Minn.) potting the first at 11:16. Shane Gersich (Chaska, Minn.) followed with his own power-play marker at 15:06. Bjork netted his second of the game to stretch the U.S. lead, now 6-0, before Nathan Billitier (Spencerport, N.Y.) capped the scoring with a power-play goal at 19:33.

Jack Eichel (North Chelmsford, Mass.) and Sonny Milano (Massapequa, N.Y.) registered two assists each for the U18s in the victory.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team has two days to prepare for collegiate action at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube when Adrian College visits on Tuesday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast live on FASTHockey.com.
